Notice of Data Security Incident

Lochland School Inc. (“Lochland School”) recently discovered an incident that may have involved the personal information or protected health information of some of its individuals. Although Lochland School has no reason to believe that any personal information or protected health information has been misused for the purpose of committing fraud or identity theft, Lochland School is working to identify any potentially affected individuals to advise them about the incident, the steps it has taken to address the incident, guidance on what they can do to protect themselves. 

On April 28, 2022, Lochland School discovered suspicious activity in the email account of one (1) Lochland School employee. Lochland School immediately took action to secure the email account to prevent any further unauthorized access.  Lochland School also engaged a leading forensic security firm to investigate.

The investigation has determined that an unknown, unauthorized person gained access to the email account of one (1) Lochland School employee from April 25, 2022 to April 26, 2022. Lochland School is now searching the involved email account for any personal information or protected health information contained inside of it.  The types of information potentially involved is not yet known, but it is possible it includes names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account/bank card information, health insurance information, or information pertaining to medical treatment or conditions. When the review is complete, Lochland School will mail written notifications to any individuals whose personal information or protected health information is contained in the email account and for whom it has contact information.

Again, Lochland School has no reason to believe that any personal information or protected health information has been misused for the purpose of committing fraud or identity theft. However, as a precaution measure, individuals should remain vigilant to protect against potential fraud and/or identity theft by, among other things, reviewing their account statements and monitoring credit reports closely.  If you detect any suspicious activity on an account, you should promptly notify the financial institution or company with which the account is maintained.  You should also promptly report any fraudulent activity or any suspected incidents of identity theft to proper law enforcement authorities, including the police and their state’s attorney general.  You may also wish to review the tips provided by the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) on fraud alerts, security/credit freezes and steps that they can take to avoid identity theft.  For more information and to contact the FTC, please visit www.ftc.gov/idtheft or call 1-877-ID-THEFT (1-877-438-4338).  You may also contact the FTC at: Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580.
